I was told by my aunt that it is bad for my baby and if I cared about her health I would use disposables… i actually didnt know whether to laugh at her or get angry
That it’s so gross I have to wring out my cloth diapers and touch poop all the time. They obviously had no idea what they were talking about and that it’s mean to make my son wear “plastic pants” umm hello no plastic pants here
My friends have been pretty supportive (although I’m the only one doing it) but most make comments about dealing with poop. I tell them they are supposed to dump the poop from their disposables, too, and they are shocked!
I was called an inconsiderate good for nothing mom and a dirty hippie for cloth diapering my daughter…I feel sorry for that person’s kids and her ignorance.
I am tired of hearing about how much work it will be and how I won’t be able to handle it. And this is usually from people who have never CDed in their lives! Just so frustrating!
While still pregnant, I was told, “Trust me, it’s nasty, you don’t want to do it.” I don’t think I’ve had much unfriendly since I’ve actually been diapering! =)
I had a day care tell me that I should reconsider because it wasn’t safe/sanitary for my baby. Needless to say we didn’t go with them — and now I’m staying at home anyway 🙂
My cousin (who has a daughter 7 months younger than mine) asked if I was going to haul our CD’s to the laundromat every time I needed to wash them. She found it disgusting that we would wash our baby’s diapers in our own washer and dryer. Needless to say this upset me, especially at 9 months pregnant!
My sister got upset at the beach this summer when she realized I had been washing the cloth diapers in the washing machine. She didn’t want to wash her clothes in the same machine.
My husband said it was disgusting and wanted no part of it. …the other day he was explaining to his friend how we use cloth diapers and its so much better for the baby. lol!
I’ve gotten quite a few::
1) it’s nasty and smelly!
2) it leaves poo in the washer
3) they would never, in a million years, cloth diaper!!
4) my mom calls CD’ing a poopy (i’m filling in a bad word there!) job!
5) added laundry is a bummer!
I was told by a nurse in the nicu it was “unsanitary” as it didn’t wick away the poop. Because a sposie has a black hole that magically wisks away poo haha
I’d say the worst would be everyone saying that I would quit as soon as I realized how much laundry was involved. Got a lot of “Good luck with that” sarcastic remarks as well. 😦
Oh, that’s disgusting to handle poop like that. (Yeah, cause you throw yours away IN the diaper and it sits in your trash and then a landfill forevahhhhh).
I was told by my sister “I wouldn’t recommend that. They don’t ever get really clean.” Good thing she doesn’t do my laundry – I get everything clean!!!
I actually have a lot of support. The worst comment was from my SO that it was “stupid looking” but now he changes and has even folded/stuffed diapers 🙂
I just have gotten sone funny looks and Whys when I tell people how excited I am once baby is born to get some cute cloth diapers on Peanut. I try to explain how economical and more healthy for baby it will be.
Someone commented to me that they wouldn’t consider cloth diapers because she wanted to be able to “medicate” her child, meaning “use ointment.” I tried to explain about using a simple barrier, but it went in one ear and out the other.
I think most people who are negative about it are just grossed out that I put pooped-on diapers in my washing machine and then wash clothes in it the next day.
“Yeah, I wanted to cloth diaper, too. You’ll give up.”
and then others thinking it’s gross to wash diapers – hello, what do you do when the kid poops and pees and vomits and bleeds all over other things? throw them out? I think not…
I haven’t heard any really negative comments – I think most people just don’t comment if they have negative opinions. My mother, however, thought I was crazy and told me that I’d never stick with it (and here I am 3 years later!)
I actually haven’t gotten any unfriendly comments about cloth diapering, Everyone I know has been super supportive of the decision, even if they wouldn’t try it themselves. I have gotten questions about washing the poop in the washing machine though.
“cloth diapers aren’t any better for the environment. The stuff they’re flushing down the toilets is toxic!” LOL- is it different than what you’re flushing?!?
my sister in law said it was disgusting and that i am crazy for doing it. she said she can barely stand changing a disposable one let alone washing a poopy cloth diaper.
My dad thinks we’re nuts for planning to spray down diapers in the toilet first–“What’s wrong with the regular diapers; you dump ’em and forget about ’em!”
my grandpa told me “he feels sorry” for my daughter having to wear “those big bulky things” Makes me wanna say i feel sorry for her when you put those crappy chemical infested things on her
Does a bad argument with my BIL, who I normally really like, count? He was pissed that someone in his building washed diapers in the shared machines. Idiot.
My Grandmother asked me why in the world I would want to put myself and my babies though all of that work in this day in age! She told me it would not last a week! This was of course before I showed her my dipes she was amazed and very supportive afterward.
Nothing too nasty. My mom was worried about poop being left behind in my washing machine and getting on our clothes lol. She implied that when I visit her, she wants me to use sposies. 😦
the fact that i have to wash them scares most people – my sister in law thinks i’m insane for buying used cloth diapers because there’s nothing worse than sticking your kid in something that someone else has pooped in.
I don’t get too many negative comments. My SIL so does not get it and is always telling me the best deals on sposies at Costco. I am catching heck for buying a portable hand crank washing machine to take hunting so I can wash my dipes and line dry them when we are up there for 10 days. So I have gotten numerous comments from her, just use sposies they are cheap you can throw them away. So yeah for DD 1st birthday we are asking for cute cloth diapers to add to our ever growing stash, so we will see if she gets us anything cute!
I haven’t had too much negative feedback. A few people have told me they think it’s gross that I carry poopy diapers around in my diaper bag, even though they can’t see or smell it. And my husband thought it wouldn’t last more than a few weeks. Well it’s been 3 months now and still going strong. He’s a little more optimistic about them now that he’s seen how they work, and that we don’t fork out $$ every month for sposies.
I was telling a close friend about how much money you can save by cloth diapering a baby, and she informed me that “If she could not afford disposiable diapers for her baby she should not be having kids”….hummm thats not what I ment..uggg
a neighbors husband is just not supportive of it at all and really gives her guff about it including posting things on her FB wall.. it’s pretty tough to watch.. the worst was that he said he thought she would get sick of it and quit after the first week!! but the bottom line is he doesn’t like the poop in the washer! sighhh
a woman i met would works in a daycare told me they were gross and daycares hated people who just HAD to cloth diaper. i told her it’s a good thing my kids were never gonna go to daycare anyways. 🙂
my stepmom just thought it was so gross…the whole idea….im going to prove her wrong next time i go stay with her haha im going to wash poo poo in HER laundry machine just to get her back haha
